12. Chapter 12

Chapter 12

The truth is finally out there hanging heavy in the air as a moment of eerie silence engulfs us. Tamsin cringes as I shoot daggers at her with my eyes. With my heart pounding in my ears, my body tenses in part anger at my friend and part dread at Bo knowing the truth. Since I came back here, who I am chasing and where I am heading has been plaguing Bo's mind as she has tried numerous times to drag it out of me. I've purposely avoided her questions since the last thing I wanted was for Bo to know that my whole existence revolves around trying to bring down the most notorious gang in the country, the McCorrigan gang. I know she is already worried enough about me and this news will do nothing to help her feel better about my leaving tomorrow. The knot in my stomach growing with every passing second at seeing her panic build.

Bo closes her eyes, her hands moving up to cover mouth as she starts shaking her head. "No...no,no,no,no,no,no, no, Lauren you can't go after them." She opens her glassy brown eyes and pleads with me. The desperation in her voice is breaking my heart as I watch her crumble forward and prop herself up on the bar. "That's a gang and you two are going to do what together exactly and against how many?"

"We have two more to help us," Tamsin blurts out in an effort to soothe Bo's fears, but it only serves to set her more on edge as her face visibly reddens.

Bo glares at the blonde beside me, not at all impressed by the news. "Oh, well that's just great. I feel better now," she spits back. "Four against what, forty? Maybe more? You have no idea what you are riding into."

The unexpectedness of this situation has me stumbling over the words in my own mind as I struggle to intercede in hopes of making her understand. "Bo I-"

"It's suicide, Lauren! You want to die don't you?" Her words are full of venom and I suddenly feel more like she is attacking me than trying to change my mind. "I thought you had found a reason to live again here with me. Opening yourself up to me little by little, I was sure that you were accepting that you could be happy, but you really are so miserable in this life that you are ready to just end it all in a blaze of glory aren't you?"

Her eyes lock onto mine and I cannot pull away from her intense gaze. The deep sadness emanating from her soul I can feel in my core and it is the most uncomfortable thing I have ever felt.
